The Penang State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy (PETACE), YB Yeoh Soon Hin has initiated the COVID-19 safety accreditation programme to strengthen preventive measures undertaken by Penang’s tourism industry players. Taking a step ahead during this recovery period, Penang is the first state in Malaysia to kickstart this initiative by the Penang State Government and lead by PETACE. The main objective of the accreditation programme is to instil the confidence in travellers visiting Penang.
This accreditation is issued to tourism industry establishments that meet and adhere to strict hygiene and safety standards set by the local authorities, namely Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Pulau Pinang (JKNPP), Majlis Bandaraya Pulau Pinang (MBPP), Majlis Bandaraya Seberang Perai (MBSP), Penang State EXCO Office for Tourism and Creative Economy (PETACE) and Penang Global Tourism (PGT). These authorities will firstly carry out a thorough audit to ensure all standards are fulfilled before validating them to receive the COVID-19 safety accreditation from PETACE.
Penang’s tourism industry sectors such as hotels, attractions and tour operators are eligible to partake in this accreditation programme. Those who have fulfilled the COVID-19 safety accreditation standard will be given the official certification mark or logo to be displayed at their premises and for use in advertising and promotional materials. Displaying the certification mark visibly at the premises of hotels and attractions will give travellers the confidence and peace of mind during their stay in Penang. JKNPP, MBPP, MBSP, PETACE & PGT will carry out continuous checks on those who have received the accreditation to ensure the standards are met and maintained.
Those interested can send their application to firstname.lastname@example.org for approval.
